Celebrating 200 Episodes of Podcasting Unlocked with Lisa Zawrotny
🎉 We did it! 200 episodes of Podcasting Unlocked! 🎉 I’m Alesia Galati, founder of Galati Media, and I’m beyond thrilled to celebrate this milestone with you. For this special episode, I flipped the script and had my amazing friend and client, Lisa Zawrotny of the Positively Living Podcast, interview me about my own podcasting journey. It was a fantastic conversation filled with insights, lessons learned, and a whole lot of excitement. Let’s dive into some of the highlights and what this journey has meant to me.
From Listener to Creator: My Podcasting Origin Story
My love affair with podcasts began back in 2015 when I stumbled upon “Stuff You Should Know.” I was instantly hooked. Tired of the same old radio tunes, I found solace and knowledge in the world of podcasts. Fast forward to 2017, I had my first experience as a guest, sharing my journey about postpartum depression, self-care, and being a working mom. This experience ignited something in me, and in 2018, I launched my first podcast, “The Honest Product Bench,” which focused on e-commerce businesses.
Lessons Learned: The Ups and Downs of Podcasting
“The Honest Product Bench” taught me a lot, especially the importance of batching content. Running a podcast alongside a full-time job without proper planning led to burnout and, eventually, the end of that show. But every experience is a learning opportunity. In late 2019, I started “Two Sisters and a Cult” with my sister, exploring co-hosting dynamics and finding unexpected success. Then, in 2020, amidst the chaos of COVID, I decided to help others launch their podcasts, leading to the birth of Galati Media.
“Listeners to Leads” was born in 2021 and has now evolved into “Podcasting Unlocked.” This evolution reflects my own growth and the changing landscape of podcasting. I realized that while lead generation is important, the impact and connection that podcasts create are even more powerful.
Key Takeaways from 200 Episodes
Here are some key insights I shared with Lisa during our interview:
- Strategy is Essential: It’s not just about hitting record. A solid podcast strategy is crucial for success and making an impact. At Galati Media, strategy is baked into everything we do.
- Embrace Change: Don’t be afraid to pivot and adjust your podcast. Rebranding, changing formats, or taking breaks are all valid options. “Listeners to Leads” becoming “Podcasting Unlocked” is a testament to this.
- Your Voice Matters: In a world with increasing censorship, podcasting provides a powerful platform to share your message authentically. I’m passionate about empowering voices, especially those from marginalized communities.
- Data Drives Decisions: Understanding your podcast statistics is vital for growth. Knowing what resonates with your audience allows you to refine your content and strategy.
- Overcoming Challenges: Reaching out to big-name guests can be intimidating, but it’s worth it. I learned early on that the worst they can say is no, and many times, they say yes!
- No One-Size-Fits-All: There’s no single “right” way to podcast. Whether you want to do a limited series or a long-running show, it’s about finding what works for you and your audience.
The Evolution to Podcasting Unlocked
The rebrand from “Listeners to Leads” to “Podcasting Unlocked” was driven by a desire to focus on more than just lead generation. I wanted to highlight the impact podcasts can have, the connections they create, and the way they empower voices. “Podcasting Unlocked” better reflects my mission to provide actionable strategies for purpose-driven podcasters.
Who is Podcasting Unlocked For?
“Podcasting Unlocked” is for anyone interested in podcasting, from those just considering launching a show to seasoned podcasters. I aim to create a hub of information, sharing my expertise and bringing on guests who offer diverse perspectives. Whether you need help with launching, marketing, monetization, or simply staying motivated, there’s something here for you.
Looking Ahead: Podcasting Trends and What’s Next
I anticipate a surge in new podcasters due to increased censorship on other platforms. This makes it even more important for existing podcasters to double down on their unique strengths and strategies. I’m focusing on:
- Categorized Content: Quarterly themes for solo episodes, complete with worksheets, to provide deeper value.
- Marketing Strategies: Exploring alternative marketing avenues beyond social media, such as Pinterest and SEO.
- Data Analysis: Diving deeper into podcast statistics to help podcasters make informed decisions.
How Can You Work With Galati Media?
Whether you need full-service podcast management, launch support, or one-on-one strategy sessions, Galati Media is here to help. We offer various options to fit different needs and budgets, including our upcoming group program and a six-month strategy program.
Final Thoughts: You Get to Decide
My biggest piece of advice? You get to decide what your show looks like. Don’t let anyone dictate how you should podcast. It’s okay to take breaks, change directions, and evolve. Podcasting is an opportunity to share your message and connect with your audience in a meaningful way.
