Financial Planning for Podcasters and Business Owners with Brandon Neely

I recently had the pleasure of interviewing Brandon Neely, host of the Wealth Wisdom Financial podcast, for my podcast Listeners to Leads. Brandon shared invaluable insights into financial planning for podcasters and entrepreneurs based on his experience owning a coffee shop and transitioning to become a business coach.

Brandon Neely is a serial entrepreneur, Profit First and Bank On Yourself Professional, and the co-host of Wealth Wisdom Financial Podcast with his wife and business partner Amanda. He and Amanda founded and managed Overflow Coffee Bar, L3C from 2008 through 2018. They learned a lot of what to do and NOT to do through that experience. Now, as financial allies, they share their experiential knowledge through podcasting and developing personalized financial strategies for individuals and profitability strategies for businesses.

Knowing Your Numbers

Brandon started by discussing the importance of knowing your numbers and implementing systems like Profit First to ensure financial stability. As business owners, we often forget to pay ourselves or prioritize taxes. Profit First helps break income into separate accounts for profit, owner’s pay, operating expenses, and taxes. This simple method can go a long way in building a solid financial foundation.

We also discussed infinite banking strategies that Brandon uses to access capital for his business. By putting money into a properly designed life insurance policy, he can use the cash value as a line of credit. This allows entrepreneurs to overcome challenges and seize opportunities that traditional banking may not support.

The STILL Method

As the co-host of Wealth Wisdom Financial with his wife, Brandon gave great perspective on running a business and podcast as a married couple. They play to each other’s strengths – Brandon handles the entrepreneurial side while his wife focuses on implementation. Regular review meetings help them stay aligned on both personal and business goals using Brandon’s STILL method of setting sights, tracking progress, and making adjustments.

The STILL method is a powerful framework for any podcaster or business owner to develop a clear financial plan. It starts with setting goals for where you want to be in both the short and long-term. Then you track your progress and look for 1% adjustments to continuously move closer to your targets. Living deliberately means following through on your plan.

Brandon’s journey from struggling coffee shop owner to successful business coach was inspiring. His openness about challenges along the way and passion for educating others was evident. I’m already implementing his tips like assessing unnecessary subscriptions and scheduling financial planning meetings.

If you want to take your financial literacy to the next level, be sure to check out the Wealth Wisdom Financial podcast and resources. Brandon’s expertise can help any podcaster or entrepreneur build a solid foundation for both personal and business success.
